History

Berlin Township is located in Delaware County Ohio approximately 5.5 miles north of the Columbus City limits. The Township is a mixture of commercial, farm and residential properties with a total area of approximately 22.5 square miles. Centered within Berlin Township is Alum Creek Lake and State Park, a popular recreational area. Our population is approximately 8,000 residents which has been gradually increasing each year due to the popularity of the area, the Olentangy School District and the proximity of the Township to Columbus Ohio. Services provided by the Township include a Roads Department, Zoning Department, Cemeteries and Fire Department.Berlin Township includes a rich history of farming, the creation of Alum Creek Lake by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tank Town, and many other notable contributions to the history of Delaware County.

In the History of Delaware County & Ohio, Perrin and O.L. Baskin & Company (1880) states:

…it was not until January 8, 1820, that Berlin Township was erected, taking from Berkshire the first and fourth sections from Delaware the second section and from Liberty the third section...Berlin was organized to the original survey , and received its name at the suggestion of Asa Scott.  (p. 452-462)
